Find out about the latest information, challenges and news about the building remodeling effort. More to come soon!
We now have the new food pantry building!!! After many hurdles and challenges we have been able to secure the building at 1777 West Grand Avenue in Port Washington Wisconsin. Thank you to all of you that have supported our efforts, financially, through prayers, kind words of encouragement and in many other ways. I would especially like to thank our volunteers both former and present who made this food pantry what it is today while forming the path towards the future. Thank you!
In the last two weeks we have had multiple walk throughs with the architect, the builder and the sub contactors looking at the possible options for the remodeling. There are many challenges we are working thru with existing construction as we look out to best utilize our new home in a cost effective and efficient manner. We are expecting a quote including remodeling duration in the next 3-4 weeks.
We are working with the city to rezone the building for the food pantry. We will be going before the Planning Commission later this month and before the Common Council later in January. Once rezoned we can start the construction process. City representatives have indicated that we shouldn’t have an issue with this process.
Within the building there were limited unused medical supplies such as pillows, gowns, bandages and blood pressure equipment. We have donated these items to Carroll University Medical Brigade. The Brigade travels globally to help in countries that need of medical assistance. The Brigade is traveling to Belize in January of 2025.
There are many many counters, counter cabinets and overhead cabinets that we will not need. Of course, we are keeping some of these based upon our new design with some extras, but this still leaves many extras. If you know of some company, or someone that would be interested, please reach out to me via email or mention the next time I am at the pantry.
All for now!
Steve
Season's Greetings to all of our volunteers, Generous Donors and all those in our community!
There has been good progress in the past few weeks that I wanted you made aware of.
The City of Port Washington has confirmed that the zoning conditions are suitable for the food pantry. We can proceed with the remodeling project without any further zoning delays. This means we can focus on the next steps, such as finalizing the design, securing any necessary permits, and starting construction.
We have been actively working with the builder and architect the past few weeks addressing the needs of the pantry building. The base remodeling design is complete, and we have received the proposal from the builder.
The board of directors voted on the December 18th to move forward with the proposal as presented by the construction company. The architect and construction company were informed to proceed with the project on December 19th. The demolition phase of the project is due to start after the holidays. The subcontractors for the mechanical construction are working on their schedules now.
Enjoy your time with family and friends this holiday season.
Merry Christmas and Have a Happy Safe New Year!
Steve
